PIXEL ARTWORKS: VARIOUS
Delicious Digital have been working with Pixel Artworks for years now developing bespoke music and sound design for their fantastic projection mappings. I have been the sound designer on a lot of their work and below is a selection of my favourites.
Bear Grylls – Escape From Hell
To coincide with the launch of Bear Grylls: Escape From Hell, the Discovery Channel wanted to put on a big show. Battersea Power Station crumbling to the ground engulfed in flames with Bear Grylls abseiling down. Of course you can’t destroy the building but you can project on it! Projection Artworks for their fantastic projection and pyrotechnic show wanted sound design to match. I created earth shattering sound design full of flames, fire and twisting metal. The show was so spectacular the fire brigade even showed up after reports that battersea was burning down!
Beefeater Gin – Covent Garden
Beefeater Gin unveiled its new label in a video-mapping show on a giant gin bottle in Covent Garden. Inspired by the brand’s #MyLondon campaign, which asked Londoners to share their favourite parts of the capital. Each area of London needed a different sound pallet. Camden’s market merchants shouting selling their wears, the calm of Richmond park, the wind through the trees and bees buzzing and the South Bank’s bustle of tourists boats and big ben. As well as these real life sounds grounding the imagery with the mood of these locations I also augmented the visuals with hyperreal sounds like crystal wine glass for the sound of the sun in richmond park, bike spokes clicking as the London Eye rolls pass and the warm synth pads of the lights on camden.
Mountain Dew
Mountain Dew was looking for something different to pep up their exclusive ‘Green Screen’ cinema events so Projection Artworks created a surprise for the viewers. As the Thor starts an alien force takes over the screen for an immersive experience. Projection Artworks wanted to create a comic book style battle and so I make the sound design to suit this. From alien voices (acted by myself!) to heavy artillery it has everything to bring out the big kid in you.
Trinity College – Verdi Remix
Projection Artworks were creating a huge dramatic projection show for the Trinity College Summer Ball. They wanted an exciting upbeat track but also a nod to tradition. I Remixed Verdi’s Requiem cutting up the melody making it glitchy big beat drum n bass aggressive track.
Carlsberg – White Cliffs Of Dover
When Carlsberg launched its new slogan, “That Calls for a Carlsberg”, Pixel Artwords put together the world’s first projection mapping show on the White Cliffs of Dover. I created the sound design for the project.
